Check with the venue before going to the gigs to make sure everything is OK, if we hear of any changes or cancellations we will try and print them but its not always possible.
HAVE A HOOT ANANNY - well here is a new music venue in Brixton, and don't they put on some sounds that are close to our hearts. Coming up later this month are The Pioneers & Symarip Pyramids (?) and in November Mark Foggo and Maroontown. So check them out at 95 Effra Road and at BrixtonHootananny.
V NECK TERRY - Well, if you're feeling a little bit flush at the moment (which is a bit unlikely), FRED PERRY has just the thing. A limited edition Terry Hall v-neck jumper, a snip at one hundred quids. See the lovely Tel below and go to Fred Perry online to order or try one of their shops (me, I'm waiting for the sales!). 15/10/08

VERY SPECIAL - Also hot of the press, it seems that 6 original members of the Specials played at the Bestival festival in the Isle of Wight last weekend and everything went swimmingly. Now, I would have preferred a private invite to a Dangermen style event with me and 500 close ska friends but you can't have everything ;-). This is brilliant news and all we need now is for General Dammers to join his other chums on stage and as the saying has goes ' lets rock'. Come on Jezzer you know you want to. For more info check out the Community section of The Specials site. Oh and well done to Mick Cornwall and Paul Willo on that site for keeping the faith - ' nearly there guys '

CAPTAIN MORGAN - One of the founding fathers of Ska is about to put in a rare appearance in the capital this September 13th. DERRICK MORGAN will be playing the 100 Club in Oxford Street. Morgan was the unrivaled King of Ska - at the peak of his popularity, he was the first and only Jamaican artist to date to hold down the top seven slots on the national pop singles chart during the same week. Derrick will be playing with a group of friends and The Reggae Regulars. So if you get a chance, beg, steal or borrow (or buy I suppose) a ticket. Go to www.the100club.co.uk for more details.
BUSTER'S BIRTHDAY BASH - who would have believed it, the old slimline Bloodvessel himself has made it to the big 5 O. To celebrate the Bad Manners crew are off on a 15 day tour of the country this September. They start at The Horn in St Albans on the 10th and go all the way through to The Cauliflower in Ilford on the 28th. So see if you can can catch up with him somewhere and wish this giant of British ska a Happy Birthday. Nice one Doug. Go to www.badmanners.net for all the dates.
HAVE A BARNEY - Neville Staple, Skaville UK (and Rhoda Dakar), The Big and many others will be playing The Barney Big Bash at Barnard Castle in Co.Durham on August 23rd. Go to tickets@barneybigbash.co.uk for tickets surprise surprise. Think its £10 a pop.
THE SPEEDFREAKS BALL in Lincolnshire on the 7th/10th November. This years Ball has a much more ska feel to it than previous outings which we obviously think is a good thing. Bands to see there include Mark Foggo's Skasters, Skaville UK and Rhoda, The Hotknives, The Riffs, The Splitters plus many more and the delights of seeing our own DJ Bosher doing his thang. Ghuana Batz are headlining the Psycho Billy side of things and they are always worth a look. Check it out at Speedfreaks Ball.
THE KIPPERTRONIX FESTIVAL in Wales on July 25th/26th. Held in an orchard in the valleys, it features Smoke Like a Fish, The Splitters, 3 Minute Warning, The Newtown Kings and Too Many Crooks. The organisers do not want this fest to grow too large so get in fast at Kippertronix.

SPECIAL RUMOURS - Apparently all seven members of seminal group The Specials rehearsed last week and it all ended in smiles. There are likely to be more twists and turns than a twister turny thing, but it is rumoured they may tour in September or October. This would be fantastic news for old and new fans alike and we will keep our ears firmly to the ground.
RUDE AWAKENING TOUR - very good looking line-up below, see if you can catch them in May. 01/04/08

DANCE BRIGADE - Something else to look out for, its seems there is a new band emerging from the primordial soup, called The Dance Brigade. It features Jennie Matthias (Belle Stars), Lee Thompson (Madness) and Keith Finch (JA13 - Crown of Thorns). Have a listen to the track on their Myspace site, it sound pretty good to us - The Dance Brigade 15/03/08

BRIGHTON SKA - So, its not all happening in London (and Skegness), look out for the Brighton Ska Festival in April. This event has been running for a number of years now (well 5 actually) and has always been very popular. They always have some of the more unusual ska acts on hand and this year is no exception. Good value at £8.50 as well. So, to the BEACH !!!!!

BEAT NEVILLE - look out for these two class acts performing around the country over the next month or so. 29/02/08

SKA MEET-UP - If you are in the smoke on March 23rd then come and join us at a little Ska Meet-Up where you can mingle with like-minded (god help you!) ska enthusiasts, drink and talk as much skank related crap as you like. There was one in Januray and apparently it was delightful (if that is the right word ;-). It will take place at the Buffalo Bar around the corner from Highbury & Islington tube and will kick-off around 2pm. Then at 6pm the mighty Skaville UK, The New Town Kings and Swagga will be playing at the venue and our old mucker SkaBeatPete will DJ our loafers off. Check-out the details in the Forum (under Advertise), and put your name down. 28/02/08
DANNY FONTAINE AND THE HORNS OF FURY - Described by themselves as an ' Orchestral Death Ska Band ' which sounds like something Darth Vader would listen to. This seven piece outfit hails from south London and performs in the Kingston-Upon-Thames area quite a lot. Have a look at their site and see what you think, they have quite a few gigs coming up shortly, so if anyone gets to see them, let us know what you think. www.myspace.com/dannyfontaineandthehornsoffury. 15/02/08
REEL BIG FISH - see if you can catch one of their shows this Feb / March. The Californian ska-punkers are playing from Newcastle to London. Supported in most cases by Streetlight Manifesto from New Jersey and Britain's very own Sonic Boom Six from Manchester (who are triffic). Not seen RBF before but I'm told they are top notch and considering who is backing them, they better be or they will get upstaged badly. A couple of the gigs are already sold out so get in there quick, go to See Tickets for dates and info. 09/02/08
THE BEAT - have a new best of album out on Feb 4th called ' You Just Can't Beat It '. Looks like good value at £6.99, but I have to say that Disc 1 seems to contain all of what I would consider to be their greatest hits. Hard core fans are going to love it. See what you think at Amazon. 07/02/08
